15 best beaches in Sardinia, Italy
And here we have the first problem. The thing is, there is no top beach in Sardinia! Even making a list of the 15 nicest beaches in Sardinia is no easy task.
Anyway, I tried to choose among the most beautiful beaches in Sardinia. I started from the South coast (Cagliari area) and followed the coastline anticlockwise. Let’s find out where to go in Sardinia for beaches!
1. The greatest beaches in Sardinia for windsurfing lovers: Chia
Firstly, the Chia area is always windy because of the mistral. Surfers and windsurfers love it! The best spots in the area are Porto Campana, Su Giudeu, and Cala Cipolla .
Secondly, the many resorts and hotels make Chia one of the best places to stay in Sardinia for beaches. To put it simply, the sea color is stunning. No doubts, you will take some great pictures.
2. Villasimius, an emerald paradise
This area is rich with resorts and is, therefore, a great place to stay and admire some of the best beaches in Sardinia. For instance, you can’t skip spending a day in Porto Sa Ruxi and being surprised by its water’s clearness. As a matter of fact, locals proudly consider it the top beach in Villasimius – together with Cava Usai. The latter is a small cove ideal for the ones who prefer more private beaches.
3. The nicest beaches in Sardinia: Muravera
Lonely Planet’s guide described Muravera’s Costa Rei as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Indeed, the crystal water and white sand resemble a Caribbean beach, and again there is no shortage of resorts. Muravera is undoubtedly one of the best places to stay in Sardinia for beaches.
4. The most beautiful beaches in Sardinia Italy: Baunei
Have you ever heard of Cala Mariolu beach in Sardinia? It’s famous because its sand resembles snowflakes and its water is a deep, stunning blue. Honestly, all the Baunei area is well worth your time. You should try spending a day in Cala Goloritzé or booking a trekking tour of the Selvaggio Blu trail. Many say that Cala Mariolu beach in Sardinia is the best beach out there.

5. Orosei and its top beaches
The Orosei Gulf area is one of the best places to stay in Sardinia for the beaches. In fact, here you can find the nicest beaches on the eastern coast of the island. The top beaches here are Oasi Bidderosa, Cala Ginepro, and Sa Curcurica, to name a few. If you don’t know where to go to Sardinia for beaches, this is definitely the right choice.
6. The best beaches in Olbia Sardinia
Are you looking for the best beaches in Olbia Sardinia? Then, you should visit Pittulongu, le Saline, and Bados beaches. These places are undoubtedly among the best beaches in Sardinia. The sand and water’s colors will simply leave you breathless. Also, Olbia is a place overabundant with hotels and resorts. Therefore, you will not have any problem with finding a place to stay.
7. Costa Smeralda, a tourist’s paradise
Costa Smeralda has both some of the best beaches and the best nightlife on the island. It’s indeed the top spot for a top-tier holiday and is always crowded with celebrities and wealthy people. Come to Costa Smeralda and see with your eyes this piece of paradise!
8. The most beautiful beaches in Sardinia: La Maddalena
The La Maddalena Archipelago is famous for its beaches and breathtaking views. For instance, Cala Coticcio Beach in Sardinia doesn’t need any introduction. It’s the top beach of the archipelago and, as common in Sardinia, it has stunning colors and incredibly soft sand. You should visit the whole area and maybe book a boat tour, too. Also, you definitely can’t miss a day at Cala Coticcio beach in Sardinia.

10. The top beach in Sardinia: Stintino’s La Pelosa
Stintino has become famous thanks to La Pelosa beach. In fact, this small yet astonishing beach is probably the best beach in Sardinia. It closely resembles a tropical beach and is definitely somewhere you should sunbathe at. Be careful, though: the beach has a limited number of entries per day. Be sure to book your spot in advance!
11. Alghero, a city full of history and beautiful beaches
Alghero is a city of Catalan origins and traditions and its beaches are as exotic. Wondering where to go to Sardinia for beaches? Then absolutely try visiting Alghero. The best locations are Le Bombarde, Mugoni, and Maria Pia beaches. They are a bit crowded because they are close to the city center, but you will not regret going there.
12. S’Archittu, a monumental beach
S’Archittu Beach, between Bosa and Oristano, is one of the best beaches in Sardinia for diving. The arch-shaped rock that encloses one of its sides is, in fact, the locals’ and tourists’ favorite spot for jumping into the water. A very fun activity indeed! But be sure to check your surroundings before jumping. It’s quite dangerous.
13. Is Arutas, the rice-sand beach
Is Arutas is, albeit less famous compared to the beaches in Costa Smeralda, one of the pearls of west Sardinia. Its unique sand, shaped like grains of rice, attracts thousands of visitors every year. Unfortunately, it’s also one of the beaches with the highest percentage of sand theft (which is a crime!). If you are looking for one of the best beaches in Sardinia, this is definitely a must-go.
14. Costa Verde, the wildest and nicest beaches in Sardinia
Costa Verde is still, nowadays, less exploited than the other areas of Sardinia, but it’s wonderful nonetheless. The best beach here is Piscinas, which is the only beach in Europe with big, sandy dunes. Tourists and locals crowd it every year for sunbathing and taking pictures.
15. Sant’Antioco, an island within the island
Sant’Antioco Island is definitely a must-go in Sardinia. Founded by the Genoese, it has some of the most beautiful beaches in Sardinia such as Calasetta, Maladroxia, and Cussorgia. You should book a hotel and try to spend some days there. There really is plenty of things to see in Sardinia other than the beaches.
